I mostly use a 0.8mm elastic thread for my bracelets unless the beads are heavy and/or have a large hole (in which case I use a 1mm thread). Note that freshwater pearls usually have a hole size of about 0,6mm so you'll need a thinner cord if you have these beads in your project. The cord you use for this project needs to be cut about 3cm shorter (about 1½ inches) than you want your finished necklace length to be. This is because the clasp and rings will add to the length.       You don't really unless the bead has a large hole. (as the head pin will come right through the bead : )
