I mostly use a 0.8mm elastic thread for my bracelets unless the beads are heavy and/or have a large hole (in which case I use a 1mm thread). Note that freshwater pearls usually have a hole size of about 0,6mm so you'll need a thinner cord if you have these beads in your project. The cord you use for this project needs to be cut about 3cm shorter (about 1½ inches) than you want your finished necklace length to be. This is because the clasp and rings will add to the length. Why do you need to use bead caps?
You don't really unless the bead has a large hole. (as the head pin will come right through the bead : )
